I am getting through the huge volume of work you have handed in: kudos! To those of you who have not handed in the Pat Burns Response and/or the Content Delivery assignment, please do so post haste. For the rest of you, after you have answered the discussion questions on “RIP: A Remix Manifesto,” please try your hand at a mash up! This may be done in pairs! Refer to the rubric below for what is expected in the assignment. Thanking you!

Friends,

today we are to begin viewing a great documentary entitled “RIP: A Remix Manifesto.” This film deals with ownership and delivery of new media. Also, thank you for the flood of assignments! I will give you some marks soon-ish! Our colleague, Jill, has suggested a class trip to see “The Social Network,” so let’s pick a day! Below are some curriculum connections to the film we will be watching, but first let’s deal with this.

This assignment will be completed as a powerpoint presentation, audio or video project, or a formally written piece. Below are the media industry sources you may choose from:

  • Music Industry
  • Television

Friends,

today we are going to peruse some of your peers’ responses to online articles and read an article on the “McDonaldsization” of new media journalism. I would like a personal response to the aforementioned article posted to the blog. This response will be the first for evaluation, so please refer to the attached rubric. At the bottom, please find the curriculum expectation associated with today’s discussion. Also, did anyone see The Situation on Dancing with the Stars? Not that you watch that show….

Friends,

as part of this course, we will be looking at how the media industry has changed in its delivery, and reflecting on this. The following is a specific expectation from our Curriculum document: “New Technologies and Content Delivery 1.2 identify some of the ways in which the delivery of content to audiences has changed as a result of new technologies and describe the effects of those changes….” In order to describe effects of the changed delivery of media, I hold that we must immerse ourselves in aspects of this change to fully grasp its implications. I ask you to go to the following sites and create accounts, enabling you to comment and interact with persons locally, regionally, and globally. Please peruse these sites for articles that spark your interest….

Jersey Shore: The Assignment.

In Uncategorized on September 13, 2010 at 2:38 pm

During our first week, we have critically regarded Jersey Shore and “…analysed the representation of groups and individuals in media texts and commented on the perspectives, beliefs, or biases that are evident in the texts….” For this assignment, you are to portray stereotypes of Hamilton youth and culture in a parody of our friends in Jersey Shore. Instead of one project, you are to form in groups and hand in a video or a script of 2 scenes emulating the Jersey Shore antics filtered through a Hamilton lens.
